Running with Jesus

Acts 1:4-5 “And, being assembled together with them, commanded them they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water, but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.”

As the baby boomer and millennial generations living in a high tech world of electronics and mobility we do not like to tarry and wait.  We own more cars in households and have microwaves that give us instant mobility and food.  We use more credit cards accruing more debt than any generation because we do not like to tarry or wait. I have found myself in so many messes because I did not wait.  Getting ahead of God is one of the areas we struggle in most of the time.  Women are especially getting themselves into all sorts of trouble because we refuse to wait and force the issues.  This may be in purchasing or speaking and trying to fix things on our own time.

God had a special work for the disciples to begin and had to wait on God to empower them for the task.  I have found when I wait upon God that He will do things in a much larger scale than I could dream or imagine.  When I was just beginning to grow in my walk I tried to get ahead of God.  He took care of this by laying me down and causing me to lay dormant for about 2 years.  I felt the call of God on my life as an 8 year old girl in GA’s.  I didn’t realize what He wanted to do in my life but I was tender to His voice.  At 16 I surrendered to full time service to live for Him.  I went on and married Mike almost 18 by 30 days.  We would be married for 9 years with 2 boys before He surrendered to preach and I saw God’s will begin to unfold.  We were young and didn’t know how it would all come about but from an 8 year old I can tell you there was a lot of waiting for doors to open.

What door are you waiting to open this morning?  Don’t give up on God and don’t be disappointed if the door you think needs to open doesn’t because the door He wants open will always work for our best and His glory!  So don’t get discouraged tarry and wait!

Father, we pray as we learn to listen to Your Spirit guide us, You will empower us to wait upon Your Spirit.  We know that is what You have planned and will work for the good.  We trust You because You are the Spirit of Promise given to us after the work of Christ death upon the cross.  We will not move until You say this is the way run in it.

Tomorrow: Empowered to witness, get excited God has places for you to go and things for you to do!

Keep those spiritual towers up!
